The bid by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take over from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state is getting more difficult as the ruling party gains more followers from other parties.
A report by The Nation states that more members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and African Democratic Party (ADP) have defected to the APC.
Some of the new defectors are Basiru Oluwole, a former House of Assembly candidate of ZLP, Ademulegun Adeala, Adesemoye Segun, a former ADC state publicity secretary, aide to the member representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, Alaba Oladele, councillorship candidate of ADC in Ward 5 Ondo West, Mrs. Tessy Ibijoke Ajayi, among others.
Receiving the new members, the chairman of the APC in Ondo state, Ade Adetimehin, said the state might soon become a one-party state following the number of prominent politicians defecting from other parties to the APC.
He said the recent defection of bigwigs of other parties to the APC was a measure of the development occurring in every nook and cranny of the state. Adetimehin described the defectors as accomplished politicians, who would add value to the party.
He said the defectors and their supporters would be given the rights and privileges of old members with no discrimination.
The defectors said they joined the APC to move Ondo State to greater heights.
Meanwhile, the APC members in the Ondo state have settled their differences ahead of the coming governorship election.
With this, members of the Unity Forum arm of the party have officially dissolved the body and blended into the campaign team of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. In another report, Ondo state deputy governor, Alfred Agboola Ajayi, has officially declared for the ZLP following his failure to clinch the PDP governorship ticket.
