Banki town: Zulum Distributs 80 Million Naira Cash to IDPs

Borno State Government has distributed eighty Million Naira Cash Support to about forty-three thousand internally displaced persons at Banki town in Bama local government to address the challenges of food shortage facing them.
The Banki camp hosts about forty-three thousand IDPs mainly from Banki, Kumshe, and other surrounding communities in the last six years.
The insurgency halted farming activities compelling the IDPs to depend on government and donor partners for food supplies.
The challenge has further been exacerbated by the deplorable condition of Bama _Banki road making it difficult to deliver food commodities to the IDPs.
At an exercise, the Governor personally supervised and participated with the support of Federal Commissioner, Bashir Mohammed, the permanent secretary, Ali Grema as well as Special Adviser to the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and officials of the state government, each male and female beneficiary was given five thousand nairas to enable them to procure food items.
Governor Babagama Umara sympathized with them over their plight assuring them that the government will devise means of ensuring food sufficiency while Banki -Bama road will be made motorable.
The Governor also informed them of the desire of the government to resettle Banki town.
The District Head of Banki, Baba Shehu Arjinoma other stakeholders and IDPs were full of gratitude for the support.
At the 152 Battalion, Banki Governor Babagama Umara and the Federal Commissioner Bashir Mohammed appreciated the officers and soldiers for their sacrifice to protect lives and property.
The Governor and the commanding officer Major Peter Hassan rubbed minds on a wide range of issues relating to unhindered delivery of food items to the community, provision of security to the returns residents, resuscitation of farming activities, allowing residents occupy their homes, and evacuation of refugees from Cameroun to be settled in Banki among others.
While in Banki, Governor Babagama Umara accompanied by the Federal delegation drove around Banki town to assess ongoing construction work, where Governor Zulum directed clearing work to resume as preparatory to the resettlement of the community in the next one month.
