“Governor-Do-Nothing” – Minister of Labour Tells Anambra Governor As War of Words Emerges

Following the description of the Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, as “governor-do-nothing” by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, a gale of counter-reactions have greeted the comment, stating that Obiano’s statement is totally out of place. The war-of-words is not unconnected to the governorship election scheduled for November 6, 2021.

According to Newsmen, the Minister of Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, and Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, engaged one another in a vituperative exchange of words over each other’s performance in public offices. This has equally been echoed by stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.

Ngige described Governor Willie Obiano as an “epicurean and governor-do-nothing.” He further added that it is because of the idleness and inability of Willie Obiano to offer anything tangible to the people of Anambra state that led to the posting of irrelevant pictures on the internet. This is a heavy allegation that needs to be dispassionately examined.

However, the APGA political party reacted by describing Ngige as a mere attention-seeker and a loose speaker with no taste for quality and good work. More specifically, the APGA’s National Chairman Victor Oye dubbed Ngige as a “jealous” minister and one of the  ”green-eyed politicians” in the country. This sort of brickbat needs to be properly interrogated for the sake of peace and progress in the state.

It should be noted that Ngige made the statement at a meeting of APC stakeholders and members of the Registration and Revalidation Committee of the party in Anambra State at the weekend. He specifically directed his remark to one of the pictures posted by Willie Obiano where he posed with a dog. Ngige maintained that no busy governor would have such leisure taking such a picture, except the likes of Obiano. There is no doubt that a gale of controversies will still be witnessed ahead of the November 2021 Anambra state governorship election.
