Former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has officially announced his bid for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Omoworare unveiled his manifesto to the party leadership on Monday, expressing readiness to return the APC to power in Osun.
During a meeting with the APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and other stakeholders, the former lawmaker highlighted his strong electoral record, noting that he has never lost an election. “I have contested five elections and have never been defeated. Even when there were attempts to rig me out, I fought in court and won. By God’s grace, I am a five-star general in politics,” he said.
Omoworare criticised the current state of governance and infrastructure in Osun, pointing to National Bureau of Statistics data showing the state ranking lowest in the South-West on the food inflation index.
He also emphasised his deep political heritage, citing notable figures in Yoruba politics within his family.
“I am a true progressive. My great-grandfather was an ‘Afenifere’, and my maternal grandfather, the Ooni of Ife, was the first governor of the Western Region. Politics is in my blood. The PDP did not win Osun; the APC lost it. We will not lose again. I am here to help us reset and rebuild,” he stated.
In his remarks, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal described Omoworare as a seasoned politician and a committed progressive, expressing confidence in the party’s chances in the upcoming election cycle.
