The Speaker who is unavoidably absent, but ably represented by
RT HON AMOS GWAMNA MAGAJI, member Representing Zangon kataf Jaba Federal constituency and committee chairman on health care services.
It is with great honour and responsibility that I stand before you on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen Ph.D, GCON (Iyan Zazzau), to deliver this goodwill message at the 1st International Conference on Statistical Sciences and Data Analytics (ICSSDA 2025) organized by the renowned Department of Statistics, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Honourable Speaker sends his warmest regards and commends the Department and the entire university community for convening this timely and intellectually stimulating conference. As a proud son of this region and an advocate for evidence-based policymaking, he believes strongly in the power of data to drive meaningful development across our nation.
The theme of this year’s conference “Statistics in the Age of Data: Innovations, Challenges, and Global Impact” could not be more fitting. We live in a world where data is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. It informs healthcare delivery, educational planning, economic forecasting, and governance strategies. In this age, data is the new oil but only when refined into actionable knowledge.
As the Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services, I witness daily how accurate data, timely, and ethically applied can transform health systems, guide responses to pandemics and influence health budgeting and policy direction. In fact, statistics remain central to achieving Universal Health Coverage and addressing disparities in healthcare access.
In my work representing Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency, I have also seen how data has helped shape developmental interventions from education to water projects, agricultural planning to community health. Data-driven development is not abstract; it is practical, essential, and deeply impactful.
The national assembly remained committed to advancing legislation and oversights that support research institutions, academic freedom, and technolog A nation that values data empowers its people with clarity, evidence, and the tools to solve real-world problems.
To the distinguished scholars, researchers, students, and professionals gathered here, I charge you to ensure that the outcomes of this conference translate into policy reforms, industry applications, and cross-sector collaborations. Let your work echo beyond academic halls into the fabric of national transformation.
In conclusion, I bring you once again the goodwill message of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen Ph.D, GCON, and assure you of the National Assembly’s support in promoting statistical sciences, data literacy, and evidence-based policy.
Let us continue to build bridges between research and development, between knowledge and national growth. Together, we can move Nigeria forward.
