Southern Senators Forum Backs Lawan

The newly inaugurated Southern Senators Forum has thrown its weight behind the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, saying that the Southern Senators Forum is united with her northern counterparts in their support for the leadership of the National Assembly.

Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, said that the forum has resolved to support efforts at a united Nigeria.

“We all resolved that notwithstanding the challenges facing this country, we will support a united Nigeria.”

In his remarks, the forum’s Chairman, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele thanked members of the forum for reposing their trust in the new executives, stating that the leadership was based on selection and not voting.

He added that “the forum would further strengthen the leadership of the Senate while also providing a voice for our people who we are here to represent.”

“We will also do all we can to ensure that the unity of Nigeria that we are looking to strengthen, we will use the platform to provide such purpose,” Bamidele said.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele Ekiti Central Senatorial District, is the chairman of the forum, while Stella Odua (Anambra North) is the secretary.

Others are Matthew Oroghide, Secretary General, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, Treasurer, and Chukwuma Utazi, Publicity Secretary.
