Orji Kalu Seeks Buhari’s Permission To Visit Nnamdi Kanu In London

Former Abia State Governor and Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Kalu, has said that he could convince the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to drop his agitation for an independent state of Biafra.

Kalu said if granted permission by the federal government, he would travel to London to negotiate with Kalu who had disappeared from the country after spending two years in detention of the Department of State Services (DSS), following his arrest in October 2015.

The Abia North Senator, in a press statement on Tuesday, expressed worry over the recent clash between IPOB members and DSS operatives in Enugu which resulted in some deaths.

He said, “We have reached a point where all Nigerians should be canvassing for strong institutions where rule of law and order are observed.

“Where the hardware and software components of a democratic nation are comprehensively promoted.

“If the Federal Government permits me, I will go to the United Kingdom and negotiate with Nnamdi Kanu to return to Nigeria.

“I will convince him to drop the agitation for Biafra because our people don’t need it.

“We need a united Nigeria that will allow different cultures and tongues to live peacefully in any part of the country.

“A country where people can comfortably do their businesses without fear of the unknown.”

Kalu, who reaffirmed his loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, thanked the president for embarking on some infrastructural development in the South East.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the Abia senator may be running for president in 2023.

Kalu had said if, given the required support, he would throw his hat in the ring in the next presidential election.
