The about our party cannot be hidden...We are making phenomenal progress

Lawan The ‘Dark Horse?’ By Itodo Daniel Sule

Senate President Ahmad Lawan is probably the last aspirant to show interest in taking over from President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the APC.

His entry had set tongues wagging from the onset with not a few people concluded that he was drafted into the race by a certain group in the presidency.

Even though the Yobe lawmaker who had been in the national assembly for more than 20 years said he was not doing the bidding of anyone, he became a subject of discussion when the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu said Lawan was the consensus candidate of the party.

A back and forth on the matter culminated in all the aspirants heading to the Eagle Square for the grand contest.

A former university lecturer from Gashua, Lawan was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1999 to represent the Bade/Jakusko Constituency as a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, and was re-elected in 2003 before successfully running to become Yobe North Senator in 2007.

Before then,  Lawan had obtained a master’s degree in Remote Sensing from the Ahmadu Bello University and a Doctorate degree in Remote Sensing/GIS from Cranfield University in 1990 and 1996, respectively.
