Group to AGF: We have no confidence in you, hails Gbajabiamila’s leadership

Consequent upon the soaring rate of insecurity in Nigeria, which led to the invitation of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari by the National Assembly and the eventual failure of the president to honor the invitation; a group, the Northern Peace Foundation ( NPF)has issued a vote of no confidence on the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami

This resolution was passed at the end of a Town Hall meeting of Northern Youth Leaders, representatives of NGO’s and Social Media influencers under the aegis of the Northern Peace Foundation in Kano on Saturday, December 12.

According to the group,” the National Assembly is the engine room of democracy and the true representatives of the aspirations of many Nigerians as such the invitation extended to President Muhammadu Buhari was a patriotic move to give him an opportunity to address Nigerians on the effort his administration is putting in place towards tackling the problem of insecurity in the country especially in the Northern Region.”

The group emphasized that” some unpatriotic elements (cabals) around the President frustrated this golden opportunity extended to him by members of the National Assembly for him to show leadership and renew the hopes of Nigerians at a time when the majority of Northerners are living in fear and despair as a result of insecurity.”

“The President should consider the interest of the nation and Nigerians which is above any other consideration and rescind the earlier misguided advise given to him not to appear before the National Assembly, because if he refused to appear he would invariably be setting a bad precedent for the country and disdain for the Constitution of Nigeria”

In another development, the Arewa Youth Parliament which is the apex legislative body of all Northern Youths Organizations has also condemned the undue and unconstitutional influence of the Attorney General of the nation, Malami.

According to the group,” we are of the firm belief that the National Assembly has the constitutional powers to summon the President, by virtue of the provision of section 89 of the 1999 Constitution, the National Assembly can summon any person in Nigeria.”

The body also appraised the commitment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila whom they explained have to midwife a smooth working relationship with the executives and will never be a party to any age da aimed at ridiculing the person and office of the President.

The body through its speaker Dr. Isah Mohammed Jakusko pleaded with the president to reconsider his position and honor the invitation of the National Assembly.
