Governor Zulum Awarded Nigerian National Honours

 

 

APC’s high-performing Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, was on Tuesday honoured with “De Grand Officer Dans L`Ordre”, Niger Republic’s equivalent of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, in Nigeria.

 

The award was part of activities lined up by the Government of Niger Republic to celebrate Fête de l’Arbre, the 3 festivals held to mark August 3, the country’s independence day.

 

De Grand Officer Dans L`Ordre awarded to Governor Zulum is the second highest national award in the country, and the first time a Nigerien President is conferring such high honours on a Nigerian Governor.

 

Speaking at the award ceremony in Zindar, President Mohammed Bazoum of the Republic of Niger said he was honouring Zulum after monitoring the Governor’s courage, sincere fight against Boko Haram, deep concern for the plight of Borno’s citizens taking refuge in parts of Niger Republic, which Zulum has visited a number of times, offering support and steadily evacuation and resettlement of the refugees in new houses built in Borno.

 

Responding, Zulum said the honour would not make him relent in his devotion to the people Borno State.

 

The Governor of Borno State was accompanied by Senators Kashim Shettima, Mohammed Ali Ndume, Chief whip of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Speaker Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, and the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engr Bukar Talba.

 

De Grand Officer Dans L`Ordre, is only second to the Francophone country’s Grand Croix des Ordre National Du Niger, the equivalent to Nigeria’s GCFR, and only reserved for Presidents in Niger Republic.

 

President Bazoum later invited Zulum to the commissioning of the 138km Zindar road project and the 22 megawatts power project in the same city.
