Delta 2023: Omo – Agege Dominate APC, Set To Emerge Flagbearer

As the 2023 election gathers momentum, the race for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state seems to have become a one man show as Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo – Agege seems to have totally dominated the state’s party structure making Saturday primary an easy ride for him.

It was gathered that Omo – Agege’s dominance has left other aspirants on the party’s platform scampering to other  parties to give their ambition a shot.

Omo-Agege who is the first senator from Delta State to emerge as Deputy Senate President is the leader of the party in the South-South region.

It was learnt that  among them, is the APC, 2019 governorship candidate in State, Chief Great Ogboru, who is a longtime ally, Omo-Agege.

According to sources, Ogboru decided to pitch his tent with All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the hope of winning the party’s ticket.

“Chief Great Ogboru has picked our 2023 governorship ticket you can take it to the bank, says a top APGA official who pleaded anonymity.

While Omo Agege has successfully rein in others like Festus Keyamo, however his months long entreaties to make Ogboru see reason with his candidacy has been unsuccessful as he insisted on flying the party’s flag.

Chief Ogboru has contested virtually every governorship election in the state since 2003 on the platform of different political parties and lost in all.

Ogboru it was learnt would finalize his arrangement with APGA by Sunday when the party would hold its gubernatorial primary election.

Reacting to Ogboru’s defection from the APC, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, a chieftain of the APC in Delta state said he had miscalculated and may even spell doom for his political career.

He said, ” Chief Great Ogboru has shot himself on the foot for decamping from the All Progressives Congress to the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA”.

“Ogboru has taken the wrong step which may continually hunt him if he did not act fast by retracing his step back to APC.”

” In his usual way, he cannot face or subject himself to primary elections but wants the ticket on a platter of gold. He does not want to be a follower, but always a leader.

“Chief is already a very bad product that is not marketable anymore, he should work with the Deputy President of Senate to liberate Delta state.

” Ogboru is a serial contestant and loser who has turned his political ambition to business, instead of service to Deltans.

“The Urhobo nation, indeed Delta state, will this time around resist the antics of Chief Ogboru always dividing the Urhobo nation for his personal interest. The Urhobos have realized their mistake of the past,” he said.
