Media mogul and politician Dele Momodu has reacted to comments made by UK Conservative politician Kemi Badenoch, who described her secondary school experience in Nigeria as traumatic.
In an interview, Badenoch said her time at Federal Government Girls’ College, Sagamu felt like being in prison. She mentioned sleeping in overcrowded dorms, fetching water with buckets, and clearing grass with machetes — a lifestyle she compared to manual labour.
Responding via his official social media account, Momodu wrote:
“I truly and genuinely love MADAM KEMI for her personal accomplishments, but I often shudder… at her unfortunate denigration of Nigeria at every opportunity… May God Almighty deliver her from whatever might have traumatized her so much while growing up in Nigeria.”
Momodu expressed concern over what he sees as Badenoch’s recurring negative portrayal of her roots, despite her success.
His comments have sparked fresh debates about national identity, diaspora narratives, and the fine line between critique and denigration.
