A coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned politicians against overheating the polity ahead of the 2023 general election, saying that President Muhammadu Buhari has achieved a lot since he came to power in 2015.
Briefing newsmen at the party secretariat in Abuja, chairman of the coalition, Lawal Mohammed Munir, said President Buhari has recorded tremendous progress in areas of infrastructure, such as the second Niger bridge, Mambila Power Project, Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill, Rail Projects, and Various Road Projects.
He said “Our government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, has had its share of upheavals and distractions to the smooth sailing of the ship of the nation. Socio-political and socio-economic challenges are inherent in every society and government irrespective of tribal, ethnic, or religious connotations. As such, our peculiar challenge as a people and government should not be seen to be different.
“Like every other great nation of the World, we shall surely overcome these challenges of Economy, Security, Education, Health (COVID-19), Political turmoil and distrust confronting our dear country Nigeria.
“In the light of all these, we appreciate the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of our party His Excellency Mai Mala Buni in tackling and addressing the challenges.
“For the past one year, the global economy and nations economy had been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemics, leading to the global economic meltdown and Nigeria’s situation is not an exception. While we thank God for shielding Nigerians from the streams of deaths occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, we also thank and appreciate the entire team of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 under the chairmanship of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha for their tireless efforts in curbing the spread of the dreaded virus and providing palliatives to Nigerians in the wake of the lockdown.
“The Coalition of APC Support Groups thanks President Muhammadu Buhari for the approval and release of funds to State and Agencies during COVID-19 lockdown.
“In the wake of the propaganda of International and Local anti-vaccine alarmists, the Coalition of APC Support Groups calls on Nigerians to shun pessimists of the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines and take advantage of its availability to get themselves vaccinated and observe all safety protocols as directed by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
“Nobody changes a winning team. In the past, the successive government was characterized by abandoned projects, but under the APC led government of President Muhammadu Buhari, projects, (Niger Bridge, Mambila Power Project, Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill, Rail Projects, and Various Road Projects) abandoned or unexecuted by previous administrations are taken up and conclusively executed even in the face of lean national resources, failing crude production and prices.”
While commending the chairman of the APC caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni, to restore peace in the party, he said “The efforts of the National Chairman of our Party, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni and the members of the National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee in organizing the Nationwide registration exercise and other party reforms geared towards rebuilding and repositioning our party is highly commendable.
