The Tor Sankera, HRH Chief David Sev-Av, has visited the crisis-hit communities of Uyam and Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State to address the rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and insecurity affecting several villages, including Tse-Afati, Tse-Ubur, Tse-Usaar, Tse-Abeke, Tse-Anyunuku, Tse-Gyembe, and Tse-Hwembe.
During the visit, Chief Sev-Av urged residents to unite and support local security initiatives, emphasizing that safeguarding lives and protecting farmlands is a collective responsibility.
He commended the efforts of Mr. Dan Zuru for his outstanding contributions to local security coordination.
The Chairman of Ukum Local Government, Hon. Modi, who was also present, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the area. He immediately approved the clearing of the dense forest behind Tse-Ubur and Tse-Anyunuku, which is widely believed to serve as a hideout for criminal gangs operating in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, community leader Bobo Ajaga described the forest as “a major operational base for criminals in Uyam, Ugbaam, Borikyo, and Shitile,” urging the government to take decisive action to secure the affected communities.
Other dignitaries at the meeting included Torsaa Orbunde, Mpuuga Ubur, alongside several community elders and youth leaders.
Chief Sev-Av encouraged displaced residents to return home and resume farming, assuring them of enhanced security measures. He also issued a stern warning to youths aiding or engaging in criminal activities to desist immediately.
