APC’s Chances Soar in Sokoto ahead of 2023

By our reporter

The fortunes of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state soared at the weekend as the leadership of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) collapsed into the former.

Headed by the PRP governorship candidate in the state, Sa’idu Gumburawa, they joined the APC, thus boosting the chances of the latter ahead of next year’s general elections.

A statement issued to journalists on Saturday by Bashar Abubakar, the Special Assistant to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC Sokoto- North), the APC leader in the state, said the new APC members include all PRP candidates, state executives and officials from the state to local governments.

The statement added: “They include the three Senatorial candidates of the party, Garzali Abdullahi, Bello Holai and Shehu Ibrahim of Sokoto North, East and South Districts, respectively.

“Also involved are the 11 candidates for the House of Representatives and 30 members of the State House of Assembly.”

According to Abubakar, the PRP leaders and their supporters were received by the APC leadership 24 hours earlier in Sokoto.

Wamakko, the special assistant noted, believed that the development ‘’was one of the greatest successes of APC ahead of the 2023 general elections in the state’’.

He said Wammako, while welcoming the new members, described their decision to join the APC as wise to ensure the emergence of the right leadership at the right time.

Earlier, Gumburawa, had said that their decision to join APC was to contribute their quota to ensure APC’s victory in 2023.
