2nd Niger bridge to be completed by 2022- FG

New press reports state that the federal government recently reassured Nigerians that the ongoing 2nd Niger bridge construction project will be completed by 2022. The federal government says it is well-assured that irrespective of whatever challenges contractors might be facing on the 2nd Niger bridge project, the 2022 delivery date will be met. It is also interesting that the Federal government’s update is coming just after Delta State governor and Anambra State governor both said they were satisfied with the pace at which the project is currently being executed.

Press reports also claim that Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Minister of Works & Housing recently visited the construction site of the 2nd Niger bridge where he gave FG’s assurance that the project will be complete in 2022. The minister was reportedly seen visiting the project site at Asaba for a quick inspection and to also meet with stakeholders when he gave this new update. According to Mr Fashola, the federal government is investing a total of ₦414 billion in this 2nd Niger bridge project and out of this sum, the roads 2b and 2a alone cost a whopping ₦208 billion.

Other press reports also claim that Mr Fashola said the contractors which are currently working on the 2nd Niger bridge project need 19million litres of diesel fuel, lots of cement supplies, 4 million cubic meters of sand and more of local labour in order to complete the project.
