2023: Bassey Otu Emerges APC Consensus Governorship Candidate For C/Rivers

Fourteen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants in Cross River State have reportedly accepted Senator Bassey Otu as the consensus candidate of the party.

It was gathered that they came up with the arrangement in the early hours of Tuesday after a meeting of key stakeholders in Abuja presided over by Governor Ben Ayade.

Ayade was said to have begged the stakeholders to unite and present a consensus aspirant from the South and reportedly when ahead to pick Otu, stating acceptability and popularity were responsible for the choice.

Other aspirants at the meeting includes Arch. Bassey Eyo Ndem, Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong, Asuquo Ekpeyong Jnr, Engr. Ben Akak, Engr. Nsa Ekpeyong Asuquo, Chief Ogbang Ebock and a host of others mostly from the southern senatorial district.

It was however learnt that two aspirants, Senator John Owan-Enoh and Chief Chris Agara, from the central senatorial district, refused to the consensus arrangement instantly. They were said to have insisted that they have to consult their supporters before making a final decision.

Agara and Owan-Enoh were said to have defied appeal from the party that no one should buy the nomination form until the party concludes arrangements for a possible consensus candidate.

It was gathered that Agara particularly told the meeting over 100 delegates and party members had endorsed his nomination form and he has to get to them first. Owan-Enoh was reported to have said the same thing.
